Wexford At Cheltenham – Day 3

Colm Murphy held aloft after Brave Inca won the 2006 Champion Hurdle

Day 2 was a very memorable day for adopted Wexford man Shane Fitzgerald, who spent many years riding in point to points for Monageer handler Mick Goff. Today he guided ‘Commander of Fleet’ to victory in the Coral cup trained by Gordon Elliott. We send our congratulations to Shane on his great achievement.

Looking ahead to day 3, here are the Wexford connections:

1.30 Turners Novice Chase – JJ Slevin rides ‘Busselton’ for Joseph O’Brien.

2.10 Pertemps Hurdle – Rob James rides two time winner of the race ‘Sire Du Berlais’ for Gordon Elliott. Tom O’Brien rides ‘Third Wind’ for Hughie Morrison. Jordan Gainford rides ‘Folcano’ for Gordon Elliott.

‘Dunboyne’ began in Point to points with Sean Doyle.

3.30 Stayers Hurdle – Tom O’Brien rides the fancied ‘Thyme Hill’ for Phillip Hobbs, JJ Slevin rides ‘Home by the Lee’ for Joseph O’Brien and Jonathan Moore rides ‘Koshari’ for David Christie.

4.10 Festival Plate Handicap Chase – Rob James rides ‘Hardline’ for Gordon Elliott, Daryl Jacob rides ‘Fusil Raffles’ for Nicky Henderson, Tom O’Brien rides ‘Celebre D’Allen’ for Phillip Hobbs and Sean Flanagan rides ‘Born by the Sea’ for Paul Gilligan.

‘Pistol Whipped’ who runs here for Nicky Henderson and ‘The Glancing Queen’ who runs for Alan King, were both formerly with Colin Bowe, while ‘SpiritoftheGames’ began with Donnacha Doyle.

4.50 Mares Novice Hurdle – Colm Murphy runs ‘Impervious’ here. She will try to add yet another festival victory to the Killenagh man’s impressive CV. Stars like Big Zeb, Brave Inca, Feathard Lady, Voler La Vadette and Quito De La Roque are names that even the casual racing fan will be familiar with. Murphy last scored at the festival in 2016 with Empire of Dirt. ‘Imprevious’ goes here with a decent chance of adding another festival success for the trainer.

Elsewhere in the race, Sean O’Keeffe rides ‘Braganza’ for Willie Mullins and JJ Slevin rides ‘Mighty Blue’ for Joseph O’Brien.

The well fancied ‘Brandy Love’ now trained by Willie Mullins, won a point to point for Colin Bowe back in 2020.

5.30 Kim Muir Amateur Riders Chase – Four Co.Wexford riders are in action here. Three of them ride for Gordon Elliot. Rob James on ‘Frontal Assault’, Jamie Codd on ‘Smoking Gun’ and Barry O’Neill on ‘Glenloe’. Mayglass man Jack Hendrick takes the ride on the Neil Mulholland trained ‘Lord Accord’.

‘Omar Moretti’ was formerly trained by Pierce Power, while ‘Rocco’ won a point to point for Colin Bowe in 2017.
