Following a nationwide search to uncover Ireland’s most inspirational people, Josephine Casey from Gorey, Wexford is celebrating after being named an Inspirational Hero in the Gala Retail and Virgin Media Inspiration Awards.

Established to shine a light on those individuals who make Ireland a better place with their selfless acts and inspirational deeds, Josephine stood out for her extensive charity work over the last 20 years and for going above and beyond for her local community. She set up the North Wexford Cancer Charity in May 1999 with their own Oncology nurse which has provided support calls to the local area for the past 18 years. She has raised over €100,000 in the last 20 years for the North Wexford Cancer Charity, which has included a Casino night in the Arklow Bay which raised €67,000 and a Vintage Tractor Run to Killarney in 2006 which raised a whopping €32,000.

Josephine is the founder of North Wexford Cancer Counselling. She is always working behind the scenes to offer support, particularly to anyone going through cancer, be it delivering home-cooked meals or transport for appointments. These are just a few highlights of a vast amount of Charity events organized by Josephine and while she was at pains to stress that it’s about the charity and not herself , she continues to use the substantial amount of contacts made over the years to further help those in need of support and will continue to do so with great thanks to Gala and the local Manager Liz Mulligan.

Inspirational people from across Ireland were nominated for the Gala Retail and Virgin Media Inspiration Awards, with 26 inspirational county heroes being named from the hundreds of entries received.

Commenting on the quality of the entries, Gary Desmond, CEO of Gala Retail comments:
