Champion Point-to-Point handler, Colin Bowe, continued where he left off from last season to take the season’s opening race at Oldcastle this afternoon.
The easing of restrictions saw the crowds return to the point-to-point fields for the first time in 18 months, although it must be said spectators were very light on the ground.
Reddys Island, ridden by Barry O’Neill, took advantage of a last fence blunder by Tintern Abbey, trained by Aidan Fitzgerald, to land the spoils in the opening 4yo Mares Maiden.
The Kiltealy Champions combined to land the 5yo mares maiden with Subtle Robin. The daughter of Robin Des Champs was prominent throughout, she again benefitted from a last fence blunder from the Liam Lennon trained, Carlotalin.
The local Point-to-Point season gets underway tomorrow at Monksgrange, the first of a six-race card gets underway at 2pm, and needless to say, the Bowe & O’Neill partnership will be expected to continue with their good start.
Admission is 10 euro per person paid at the gate, however, you will need to register in advance on this link, https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/point-to-point-registration-25th26th-sept-tickets-169640592579
