Independent TD for Wexford, Verona Murphy has welcomed the news of major progress in the formation of a Technological University of the South East today.

The news follows a meeting of the boards of IT Carlow and Waterford IT today to sign an agreement to form the TUSE. The application will now be placed in the hands of the Higher Education Authority, who will establish a Committee to oversee the merger, with the aim of being up and running by 2022.

“This is extremely positive and welcome news for the South East and for Co.Wexford”, said Deputy Murphy. “It is a major development in the progress of the University and for education in the South East. I look forward to Wexford having its own state of the art campus as a key component of this University of the South East.”

Deputy Murphy concluded: “I would like to congratulate the boards of both IT Carlow and Waterford IT, and all other stakeholders involved on their work in getting to this monumental stage.”
