Today’s Leinster Hockey Cup final between Enniscorthy and Rathgar, due to be played at 2pm in the Astro, has fallen victim to the new Dublin Lockdown measures introduced at midnight.
According to social media reports,
“Enniscorthy Hockey and Rathgar Hockey have come to the mutual agreement to postpone the Division 5/6 Cup Final due to take place this afternoon in Enniscorthy”.
Hockey Ireland guidelines seem to be totally at odds with the Goverment guidelines introduced today, according to a statement from the governing body, in relation to the Level 3 protocol,
Competition: No matches or events to take place.
Exemption: professional/elite/intercounty/club championship/horse-racing can take place behind closed doors. All matches should be played behind closed doors.
But the government restrictions which came into force at midnight for Level 3 clearly state that,
“No matches or events, except elite sports”
“Stay in your own county apart from work, education, and essential purposes”
A new date for the Cup final will be announced in due course, but this new fixture is unlikely to be scheduled in the next 3 weeks.
The Leinster Hockey League is due to commence in two weeks time, Wexford Ladies away to Old Alexandra in Division 3, Enniscorthy are at home to Our Ladys in Division 5, and Gorey travel to Lucan to take on Weston, one has to think all these fixtures will be in doubt due to the current restrictions.
