Senator Malcolm Byrne has welcomed the extension of the ban on the burning of smoky coals in Enniscorthy along with 12 other additional towns from 1st September.
Malcolm has been pushing for such a ban to help improve air quality and assist those with respiratory illnesses and breathing difficulties. He raised it several times during his time as a Councillor.
“We need to go much further, however. Up to 1,500 people a year die in Ireland because of poor air quality and we need to do everything we can to help those with asthma or who have difficulty breathing.”
Malcolm believes a nationwide ban on the burning of smoky fuels is necessary.
