At Tuesdays monthly meeting of Gorey Municipal Council, Councillor Fionntán Ó’Súilleabháin expressed the frustration of local people at seeing heroin needles littering the town and the urgent need for far greater action against the scourge of heroin dealing.
His concerns were given further credence on Wednesday with the news that 8 people were charged, at Wexford District Court, with the distribution of drugs, including heroin and cocaine, in Gorey, Co Wexford.
The charges came as a result of an undercover Garda investigation, involving the Gorey detective branch in conjunction with National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.
Of the 8 accused, 6 were charged with the intent to supply heroin, while 2 others were charged with the intent to supply cocaine.
All the offences are alleged to have happened during the course of 2019.
Judge Brian O’Shea remanded all the eight suspects on continuing bail to appear in court again on July 9.
