Green Party Support Investment in Rosslare Port

The Green Party have confirmed to WexfordToday.com, their view that Rosslare Port needs investment as an alternative to Dublin Port.

In response to questions raised by this website, Green Party TD and transport spokesman Joe O’Brien has confirmed to WexfordToday.com that Rosslare Europort needs investment to provide an alternative to traffic at Dublin Port.

Mr. O’Brien confirmed:

“I am in agreement,…, that there needs to be an arrangement for some of the future investment in ports to be in Rosslare as an alternative to Dublin for container traffic”.

He continued

“I also recognise the benefits,…, in taking certain pressures out of Dublin”

Deputy O’Brien also highlighted the added benefit of promoting balanced regional development.

Wexford independent TD Verona Murphy, has since her election, promoted Rosslare Port as an alternative to Dublin Port. This has caused a lot of political unease among some sitting Wexford public representatives, with one Co.Wexford based Oireachtas member describing Ms. Murphy’s contribution on Rosslare port as noisy and confrontational.

Speaking this evening, Verona Murphy reacted to the news:

“The Green party recognition that the port in Rosslare needs funding proves my approach of putting Rosslare Port on the political agenda is working”.

My only hope now is that the Wexford Oireachtas members in Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael will put on the Wexford Jersey and ensure that the upgrade of Rosslare Europort is a central part of the programme for government”
