Wexford TD James Browne has secured a commitment from the Health Minister to ensure that concerns about the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus do not affect Wexford home help client services.
In the past week Wexford home help recipients received letters, which effectively told them to “use it or lose it” when it came to their home help.
Deputy Browne explained,
“at the beginning of this pandemic many people, out of fear, moved into their loved one’s homes or even their friends’ homes. This inadvertently took some pressure off the local health service. They have now got letters telling them that if they don’t reconvene their home help by June 8th that they will lose their provision and be put back on what is a disproportionately long list.”
“There are hundreds of County Wexford people on that list, waiting for home help that will give them a new lease of life and confidence to stay in their own home. Every effort should be made to accommodate all of these people, not to add to the list.”
“I will follow up on the Minister’s commitment to review this matter affecting County Wexford home help recipients and their families”.
