€420,000 Funding for Seaside Resorts in Wexford

Five seaside resorts in Wexford are to receive a €420,000 funding boost, according to Minister Paul Kehoe.

The funding will be used to provide upgrades and repairs and to improve access to some of the county’s most popular resorts. Minister Kehoe said the funding is particularly welcome given the impact of Covid-19 on coastal resorts.

At Kilmore Quay, €150,000 will be spent on dredging the harbour, while the plan will also see repairs to the West harbour wall, an upgrade to the Marina and an upgrade of power points.

Meanwhile at Courtown Harbour, money has been set aside to install barriers on the slipway.

Over at Slade Harbour, over €71,000 will be spent on essential structural repairs to the harbour walls and slipway, as well as other health and safety works.

Finally, €22,500 has been set aside for the upgrade of the New Ross marina, while €11,250 will be spent on improving Fethard Harbour.

The funding was confirmed to Minister Kehoe last night by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Creed.

Welcoming the news, Minister Kehoe said the funding will make our seaside resorts safer and more attractive to visitors.

“Our rural coastal communities are the heart blood of County Wexford and this funding will come as a welcome boost to the villages and communities alike,”

“When the country re-opens fully following Covid-19, we need to ensure that our coastal resorts can get back on their feet. I will continue to work hard with my Government colleagues to ensure this happens,”

This is a €3.1m package to assist 10 coastal Local Authorities to undertake and complete 58 development and repair projects on harbours and slipways owned by them (see table below for details).

The package provides funding for maintenance and repair works in addition to supporting the ongoing development and enhancement of harbour facilities including some marine leisure developments.

The LAs in question are: Clare, Cork, Donegal, Fingal, Kerry, Mayo, Sligo, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow.
