D’Arcy elected to the Seanad

MINISTER MICHAEL D'ARCY

Minister of State at the Department of Finance and former TD, Michael D’Arcy has been elected to the Seanad for a second term.

Having previously served in the Seanad between 2011 and 2016 as a member of the Administrative Panel, D’Arcy will now be serving this term as a member of the Agricultural Panel.

There were 11 seats available on the Agricultural Panel. D’Arcy was placed 12th after the first count, but in subsequent counts he benefited from the elimination of lower placed Fine Gael candidates, which saw him receive enough transfers to secure his seat on the 18th count.

Meanwhile, New Ross based independent candidate Pat Kent was eliminated on the first count.

D’Arcy’s successful election means he will join fellow Gorey based Senator Malcolm Byrne, who was elected yesterday to the Cultural and Educational Panel. It is positive news for Wexford that we have representatives in both houses of the Oireachtas and we wish them both the very best of luck in their work.
