Dunhill Multi Education Centre, in Waterford, are pleased to announce they are running a Level 6 Regional Tour Guiding Training Course starting 24th February 2020.
This intensive 7-week course will provide participants with the skills, knowledge and competencies to deliver and manage a wide-ranging tourist guiding service for international and domestic tourists travelling in Ireland. This new course offering is in response to the increasing demands of the tourism industry in Waterford and the Ancient East region. This industry-standard qualification offers opportunities across all tour guiding markets such as the popular Cruise Liners, Tourist Attractions across the Ancient East and nationwide. The Fáilte Ireland Guiding badge is available to participants on successful completion of the course.
Centre Manager Marie Cox said that the development of both the Regional and National Tour Guide awards by the centre was a direct result of the links developed over the last decade delivering the WWETB sponsored Heritage Tourism Trails with Smart Media programme. Marie went on to say that guides consulted during the development process talked about tour guiding as one of the most rewarding jobs in the world.
“Guides have the opportunity to do for a living what others only experience on their holidays, meeting amazing people from all over the world and marveling at the rich heritage of Ireland and its extensive tourist offering daily”.
Fáilte Ireland statistics tell us that last year 2.8m overseas tourists visited the region and spent €1.6bn, supporting 44,000 jobs. Fáilte Ireland research shows that almost half (45%) of all domestic tourists engaged in cultural activities while taking a break in Ireland in 2017, and they continue to work with tourism businesses in the region to provide even more engaging and accessible cultural experiences that will drive visitor numbers and spend, lengthen the tourism season and, most importantly create jobs and increase revenue.
The Regional Tour Guiding Programme 6S20233 at Dunhill will provide participants modules including Irish Tour Guiding and Irish Natural Heritage and Culture with a particular focus on the Waterford and south-east tourism offering. Students wishing to continue with the programme can attain the 6S20232 National Tour Guiding Programme at Dunhill MEC. This prepares participants to deliver and manage a comprehensive tour management and guiding service for tourists visiting and travelling in Ireland, with the addition of the 6N20230 National Tour Management module. Students who have undertaken any of the modules listed within the last 5 years would be eligible for an exemption on these modules to achieve the full special purpose awards.
