Enniscorthy’s men’s 2nds welcomed Dublin Southside YMCA to the Astro Active Centre on a windy Saturday afternoon.
The home side started the stronger, as they controlled the majority of the first quarter of the game. Despite their ball possession and field position, it was the visitors that broke the deadlock during the second quarter. Enniscorthy struck back four minutes before half time when Hogan scored from a penalty corner.
Half time came with 1st team captain Graham Hill running the line for the Wexford side and he focused the minds of his men for the second half and within seconds his words paid dividends. Speedster St. Claire Johnson made a run and put in a threatening ball across the visitor’s circle to his side’s captain, Graeme Chapman. Chapman slotted the ball past the YMCA ‘keeper. The Wexford men continued to pressure the Dubliner’s goal, with Kehoe causing the opposition trouble as he linked up with Hogan. The latter scored his second goal and his side’s third as he made a solo run beating the keeper with some great skill. At the other end of the pitch, Rothwell in goal was called upon to keep his side’s lead as he made a tremendous save.
The third quarter was end to end with the visitors putting good pressure on the home side’s goal, keeping Enniscorthy’s defenders busy. YM were awarded a penalty corner on the final whistle of the game and despite the efforts of the Rothwell brothers, Ivan and Glen the Dublin side stole one back. To the relief of the home side they had done enough and won with a scoreline of 3-2.
Enniscorthy’s men’s second team will travel to Dublin this Saturday when they take on Monkstown.
