Counting resumed at 10 am when the first task was the distribution of Michael Sheehan’s transfers at Count Eight. Brendan Howlin needed 260 and he received 623 transfers to bring him to 12,930 and he was formally elected. Johnny Mythen (Sinn Fein) was elected on the first count yesterday.

James Browne is in third place. Verona Murphy is creeping forward and looks certain for a seat. She could take the third seat ahead of Browne? Malcolm Byrne is best placed at this time to take the fifth seat. Anxious time for the outgoing ministers Kehoe and D’Arcy. Could it be the first time in the history of Fine Gael that the party would have no Wexford representative in Dáil Éireann.

The order for the remaining three seats is as follows; James Browne (+1,186) 10,432) ; Verona Murphy (+1,194) 9,014; Malcolm Byrne (+692) 7,535; Paul Kehoe (+348) 7,060; Michael D’Arcy (98) 7,020. Carthy’s 6,004 transfers are now being distributed.
