Children in the Enniscorthy area must now wait 34 months before receiving a child psychology appointment.
That is according to Fianna Fáil Mental Health Spokesperson and General Election Candidate James Browne TD who has criticised the worsening wait time for children awaiting primary care psychology services.
Deputy Browne told WexfordToday.com; “These figures clearly outline the continuing crisis in the provision of mental health services for Wexford children. The fact that children in the Enniscorthy area might have to wait almost three years to get a mental health appointment is scandalous.
“Early intervention and treatment are so important when dealing with vulnerable children and teenagers. It promotes children’s wellbeing and reduces stress. After all, half of all mental illnesses begin by the age of 14. The Health Minister and the HSE have neglected their duty to do better for these Wexford children. “Such deficiencies in mental health services for children cannot be allowed to continue”, concluded Deputy Browne.
