Wexford home care waiting list has almost doubled

Wexford TD James Browne has criticised the Government’s failure to tackle the lengthy waiting list of Wexford people awaiting home care support hours claiming that Co. Wexford waiting list has almost doubled in eight months.

With 874 people awaiting home care support hours, Wexford has the second worst waiting list for home care support hours in the country and is clearly in a state of crisis.

Deputy Browne said; “It is frustrating to see that this Government doesn’t see the need to tackle the lengthy waiting list for home care support hours in Wexford. 874 Wexford people await home care support hours at the end of October 2019. Back in February 2019, 506 people were waiting for this vital support. How can so many Wexford people be left struggling? Other local health areas such as Carlow/Kilkenny and Dún Laoghaire can boast that they don’t have anyone awaiting home care support?

“I frequently meet family members of Wexford people who need care. It’s harrowing to see how desperately they need care, but they’re left waiting for months for a vital support.

“The million extra home care hours promised by Budget 2020 cannot come soon enough. Given the failure so far in 2019 to meet targets, I don’t trust Fine Gael to reverse the trend of the Co. Wexford home care support waiting list,” concluded Deputy Browne.
