Gorey J2s were also at home to Wicklow and after an even first half ran out comfortable winners in the end.
It was all square at halftime as both teams squandered chances with a Ben Porter and Cian Hadden penalties to show for all their hard work.
It took until the middle of the second half for Gorey to finally crack the Wicklow defence. By the 60th minute, two Hadden penalties had extended Gorey’s lead to 9 – 3.
In the 65th minute Gorey finally crossed for their first try with a strong run from Jack Willoughby finishing off good teamwork. Eoin Walsh was next to get in on the act with a line break that took him from just outside the visitors 22. Cian Hadden converted to leave the score at 21 – 3.
Gorey kept the pressure up and when Arron Davies crossed for Gorey’s final try it put a gloss on what was a very close match for a long period. 26 – 3 was how it finished.
Gorey had some good performances with Cian Hadden, Jack Willoughby and Brian Brooks in the backs and Eoin Walsh, James Nolan and Eoin Walsh the pick of the forwards.
Next up for Gorey is an away trip to Ashbourne next Saturday.
