Enniscorthy’s Johnny Mythen has been selected by Sinn Féin to contest the forthcoming by-election in Wexford constituency following a convention gathering in The Courtyard, Ferns, this evening. This decision comes as no surprise as Mr Mythen had already been nominated as the party’s candidate in the next General Election!

Johnny Mythen was first elected to Enniscorthy Town Council in 2009 and to Wexford County Council in 2014. He failed to retain his seat in the Local Elections last May. He stood as the Wexford Sinn Fein candidate in the 2016 General Election and marginally lost out on a seat in Dáil Eireann by just 31 votes!

It is expected that the by-election created by Mick Wallace’s departure to the European Parliament in May, will take place on Friday, November 29th. The Government is expected to move the writ paving the way for the election next week.
