County Wexford is ready for Storm Lorenzo!

The Wexford County Council Management Committee met this afternoon to review preparations for Storm Lorenzo, comprising of senior staff of Wexford County Council, An Garda Siochana, ESB and the HSE, and the public is reassured that all preparations are in place to deal with the situation.

A spokesperson said: “At this time, our main concern is wind damage –widespread flooding is not anticipated, although we have prepared for same and more than 5,000 sandbags are stockpiled and available if required throughout the county.

“The Council has significant resources available to it to deal with this event. All our emergency staff, including fire service personnel, civil defence, outdoor crews and senior staff of the Council are in place and available to deal with issues as they arise. The Gardaí will be providing a full service during this storm event.”

When travelling, pay particular attention to the risk posed by fallen trees and flying debris. In the event of road closures, follow the diversion signage.

The ESB is advising the public to stay away from fallen cables that may have broken due to the high winds. ESB Emergency Services can be contacted at 1850 372 999.

Further updates will issue in the coming days from the Emergency Management Committee.
