Courtown Hibs 2
Moyne Rangers 1
Ounavarra Park played host to Moyne Rangers this morning as Courtown looked to build on their win over Bohs last week. Moyne came into the game after a hard-fought draw with local rivals Shamrock Rovers and were keen to get their first win on the board.
The game started at a very quick pace with both midfields looking to take advantage of excellent conditions and use the ball quickly. Peter Mardsden was quarterback for Moyne and was looking to get the Moyne wingers in behind the full backs at every opportunity while Mattie Kavanagh was pulling the strings for Courtown.
There were no real chances of note in the opening 20 minutes however that changed when Moyne made the breakthrough. James Peare rolled Dylan Fleming on the halfway line and made inroads into the defence. Some lovely footwork evaded two further tackles before brilliantly slotting into the top corner from 18 yards.
Hibs struggled from this point and were sloppy in possession allowing Moyne in behind several times however Moyne were just missing that cutting edge to further extend their lead. Hibs had a half-hearted penalty appeal waved away as half time loomed and Moyne took a deserved 1-0 lead into the break.
Hibs were a different animal in the second half as they started at a blistering pace. Jake Cassidy and Daniel O’Brien were getting in behind the Moyne full-backs and pinning them back while Hibs were beginning to win the midfield battle. A lovely move down the left led to a corner with Higor Garces rose highest for and nodded into the Moyne net, 1-1 after 55 minutes.
Hibs manager Stephen Redmond introduced Colin O’Brien after an hour and his decision paid dividends 15 minutes later. Colin got the ball on the left 30 yards out before dribbling past 4 Moyne players and rifling into the top corner to give Hibs the lead with 15 to go.
Moyne had most of the ball as the game drew to a close but the Hibs defence withstood all Moyne could throw at them. Moyne did have the ball in the net in injury time however it was ruled out for offside.
Full time and a 2-1 win for Hibs in a very entertaining game.
