The 14th annual New Ross Piano Festival which takes place over five days next month, September 25th-29th, was offically launched this evening by Eamonn Hore, Director of Services with Wexford County Council at a well-attended and pleasant function held on board the Dunbrody Famine Ship at New Ross.
Mr Hore outlined the humble beginnings of the Piano Festival by a small enthusiastic local committee and illustrated how it has grown into one of the finest music festivals in the country and has a significant following.
Festival Director, Finghan Collins, who is a participant in the festival and gave a short performance at the launch, said the five-day piano festival is jam-packed with concerts featuring today’s most exciting pianists, including Barry Douglas, Gwilym Simcock and Daria van der Bercken.
The festival opens on the Wednesday with the Young Pianists Concert, Thursday has lunchtime jazz with the Phil Ware Trio and evening jazz with Gwilym Simcock. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will showcase the Main Opening Concert, the Evening Concert and the Closing Concert.
Tiffany Qiu and Finghin Collins enhanced the launch proceedings with short performances on the grand piano.
