Enniscorthy Greyhound Track loses major sponsor

Enniscorthy Greyhound Track has lost it’s largest sponsor as a result of today’s Connolly’s RED MILLS announcement on the withdrawal of greyhound racing sponsorship countrywide.

RTE’s TV programme, a week ago, raised animal welfare issues relating to the overbreeding and subsequent treatment of greyhounds. Barry’s Tea and FBD pulled their sponsorship at Cork and Kilkenny earlier this week.

RED MILLS sponsored two competitions at the Ross Road circuit, “The Future Champion Unraced”, run in the Autumn, carried a winners prize of 8,500 euro, and the “Easter Unraced Stake”last year was worth 4,000 euro to the winner.

This is a big blow for the local track and it certainly wont be easy to replace a sponsor like Connolly’s RED MILLS.
