Assagart My Only Hope books her Dublin ticket in Armagh

Assagart My Only Hope won the Breeder's Championship at Ballsbridge in 2017

The first of the RDS Breeders’ Championship qualifiers took place in Armagh County Agricultural Show on Saturday.

John Roche, Foulksmills, certainly made the long journey pay dividends, as Assagart My Only Hope, and her filly foal, by Castleforbes Lord Lancer, booked their ticket for this year’s Dublin Horse Show.

Assagart My Only Hope won the Breeder’s Championship at Ballsbridge in 2016 with her colt foal by Coroner, and in 2017, with her colt foal by Castleforbes Lord Lancer.

Derry Rothwell, Tinahely, well known on the showing circuit, also qualified Greenhall Catwalk (Mermus R x Millenium Cruise by Cruising) and her foal by Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet. Catwalk took third place in last year’s championship in Dublin.

Gorey Agricultural Show hosts the next qualier on Saturday.

The Breeders’ Championship, sponsored by The Irish Field, takes place on the Friday of the Horse Show and carries a first prize of 5,000 euro.
