Five Wexford students win top awards for art

Five Wexford students have been presented with top awards in this year’s 65th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.
Naoise Hennessy, a 16-year old student from Craanford, near Gorey, who was chosen overall winner of this year’s Competition, taking first prize in the senior 16-18 years age category received her award from the Chairman of the judging panel, Professor Gary Granville and James Twohig, Director Ireland Operations at Valero.

Naoise, who also has medals for football, was honoured at the Gorey Municipal Civic Awards earlier this month in recognition of her national honour and her prize-winning work was on public display.

Four other winners from Wexford, all of whom received Special Merit Awards at a ceremony held in Enfield recently, are Sadhbh Quinn (16), from Loreto Secondary School, Ballynagee, Benjamin Blair (9), from Gorey Central School, Maya Rubin-Rahn (11), from Gorey Educate Together National School and Áine Gunning (6), from Kilmore National School.
