Harps in May at St. Iberius Church, Wexford

WEXFORD HARP ENSEMBLE will perform in St. Iberius Church, Wexford, at the Harps In May Concert on Sunday.

Sunday, May 12th sees some of Ireland’s most renowned harp players and musicians join local Wexford Harp and Bray Harp Ensembles to perform in St. Iberius Church, Wexford, from 5.30 pm.
Siobhán Armstrong, founder and Chair of the Historical Harp Society of Ireland is Ireland’s foremost exponent of the early Irish harp.
She performs with Sean-Nós singer, Eibhlís Ní Ríordáin as they reimagine the haunting sounds of the ancient harp and singing traditions.
Teresa O’Donnell, one of Ireland’s leading pedal harpists will play a selection from her vast repertoire of Irish, classical and contemporary harp music and is joined by her long-time collaborator; Karin Leitner, renowned flautist and composer.
They will show the harp in a different light; bringing a unique blend of enchanting tunes to this special concert.
“We have a long tradition of harp-playing here in Wexford, and we are particularly proud to be hosting such an eclectic, elegant mix of music at this intimate venue” comments Aileen Kennedy, Director of Cruitirí Loch Garman, the Wexford Harp Ensemble.
“Our own ensemble numbers more than 20 harp players from all over the county, and we are delighted to host this concert on behalf of Cruit Éireann, Harp Ireland. We want to bring this beautiful instrument to as wide an audience as possible. What better way to showcase our wonderful harp repertoire and our many talented harp players.”
The Wexford harp players will be joined by the Bray Harp Ensemble, led by up-and-coming harp player, Rachel Duffy and the two ensembles will join forces to bring this special night to a close with a performance of well-known harp airs.
