Wexford go down by 2 points in Derry goal fest

Derry made it seven wins from seven games this afternoon, as they beat Wexford by 2 points, following a goal fest, at Bellaghy, in the final round of the Allianz Football League.

Derry were quickly into stride, first half goals from Benny Heron, Enda Lynn and Ryan Dougan, set them up for a 9 point advantage at the break, 3-11 to 1-8, Wexford’s goal coming from Ben Brosnan.

Kevin O’Grady’s converted penalty, five minutes into the second half, reduced the deficit to 6 points.

Derry were reduced to fourteen men with 12 minutes remaining as Conor Mulholland was red carded.

Barry O’Connor and Ben Brosnan raised green flags for Wexford, the visitors trailed by a single point, but Derry’s fourteen men held on, Conor Doherty kicked a point in injury time as Derry ran out two point winners.

Wexford improved throughout the campaign to take fourth place in the League on six points.
