Barry O’Neill rode a double -both trained by Colin Bowe – at Ballyarthur, near Fermoy, point-to-point today and is now on the 41-winner mark, 17 ahead of his nearest rival and fellow Wexford rider, Jamie Codd.
O’Neill got off the mark in the mares maiden race with a ‘neck’ victory on Ballymorris Rose, the daughter of the distinguished mare, Askanna, owned and bred by John Asple from Bree.
Fort Worth Texas won the Winner of Three by four lengths to give O’Neill a double on the day and Bowe his 24th winner of the season.
Only two runners managed to finish the race and runner-up was Mytermsoryours, owned and trained at Ballyboy Stables, The Ballagh, by Denis Murphy and ridden by Blackwater rider Kevin Corrigan.
Point-to-pointing also took place at Ballyraggett, but there was only one Wexford winner at the Kilkenny track.
First time out Boss Man Fred, owned by Harley Dunne and competently ridden by him, ran out the two and a half lengths winner of the maiden race for five year old geldings.
This was the 90th career winner for handler Liam Kenny who trains at Ballydarragh, near Gorey.
