There was more good news in Bunclody today after Fianna Fáil TD for Wexford James Browne told WexfordToday.com that the 5,000 square metre extension to Bunclody Vocational College has finally been given the go ahead.
Deputy Browne said he visited the school only last month and has been actively engaging with the Department of Education to secure approval for the extension.
“This is a great day for Bunclody Vocational School. After years of campaigning for a new extension, the Department has finally given the go ahead for a 5,000 square metre building. This decision, while welcome, is long overdue”, said Deputy Browne.
“The school, which has 168 students, is simply not fit for purpose. We’ve seen prefab built on top of prefab to the point that students must walk through a field to get from one building to another.
“In some parts of the school floors have collapsed, but the conditions are generally poor throughout it. This extension will make a huge difference to pupils and teachers.
“I look forward to continuing my engagement with the principal and teachers at the school and I hope that this project can move forward without delay”, concluded Deputy Browne.
The welcome news comes just one day after it was announced that Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club will be host venue for the 109th Irish PGA Championship which will take place from August 19-22th.
