16 years old dies in road tragedy near Mount Leinster

The 16 year old who died in a road traffic collision this morning has been named locally as Eamonn Kavanagh from Myshall.

Gardai are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred near ‘The Nine Stones’ on the Carlow side of Mount Leinster, close to the border with Co. Wexford at approximately 5 am this morning.
A 16 year old male was fatally injured when the car he was driving stuck a wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Waterford Hospital.
The four other male occupants of the car, all late teens, were taken to St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, and Waterford University Hospital, one believed to be in a serious condition.
The scene of the collision is at a popular walking tourism destination called ‘The Nine Stones’ and facilitates traffic travelling from the Borris district, over the top of Mount Leinster and onwards towards Kilbranish and Bunclody.
This stretch of road is closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
