Tributes remembering Michael O’Leary

MICHAEL J. O'LEARY

Many tributes have been expressed following news of the sad passing of Michael O’Leary, at his home, Garryvadden, Blackwater, on Sunday, January 27th, surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was manager of the Sherry Fitzgerald O’Leary Kinsella business at Slaney Street, Enniscorthy, over a long number of years.
He was Vice-President of Enniscorthy Town and District Chamber of Commerce and President Maree Lyng said; “It is with feelings of great sadness we announce the passing of our Vice-President Michael O’ Leary.
“Michael’s death creates a great void in all our lives and in the lives of the many people he encounted during his all too short stay among us. His contribution to both the commercial and social life of Enniscorthy and his native Blackwater was immense and his untiring work for the betterment of society in general will be the legacy by which he will be best remembered.”
Michael was highly respected in GAA circles and a minutes’ silence was observed before Sunday’s Wexford v Limerick National Hurling League game at Innovate Wexford Park.
Senan Lillis posted of “a parish in shock and a club (Blackwater) in despair.”
“Mick was our team mate, our manager, our selector, our mentor, our motivator, our sponsor, our supporter, our go-to-man.”
Michael O’Leary will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his beloved wife Mary, sons Rodí, Jason and Declan, daughter Lisa, brothers Bobby and Eamonn, son-in-law Larry, daughters-in-law Sue, Mag and Mary, his nine grandchildren, aunts, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and his many friends. Now reunited with his parents Tom and Nellie, brother John and his cherished grandson Larry.
Michael’s remains will be arriving to St Brigid’s Church, Blackwater on Tuesday, January 29th for Reception Prayers at 7.30 pm. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 11 am followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. House Private Please. Family Flowers Only, Donations if Desired to Hospice Homecare.
