Enniscorthy Hockey Club’s ladies second eleven swept aside bottom club Weston on a 5-0 scoreline in last night’s Division 12 clash at Griffen Valley Park.
Winning the toss proved a good omen for the visitors, with forward Hannah Neville putting Enniscorthy ahead inside ten minutes. The Wexford side continued to pile the pressure on, with precise interlinking play between the midfield and forward departments earning a penalty corner just five minutes after Neville’s goal, though Weston were able to clear their lines.
Enniscorthy doubled their lead just before half time, Alice Kelly and Laura Redmond working well together for Redmond to open her account for the season.
Weston upped the ante on the restart but the visitors were able to soak up the pressure through the hard work of captain Eleanor Bolger, with defensive colleagues Creed, O’Brien and Nic Corcráin, while goalkeeper Alice Medcalf was also called into action on occasion. Instead it was Enniscorthy who added further goals. Megan Dempsey and Neville were proving dangerous on the wings, and Ciara Yates took full advantage with her brace putting Enniscorthy four goals ahead. A fifth came from the stick of Laura Redmond.
Last night’s result leaves Enniscorthy in fifth place in the league.
