New Ross attack on elderly man condemned

Gardai in New Ross are investigating an incident in the town this afternoon after a group of men viciously attacked an elderly man on crutches before escaping the scene by car.
Local woman Marie Doyle – who will be co-opted to Wexford County Council for New Ross in January – has condemned the attack on the injured man as an “utterly cowardly disgrace.”
Local reports say the incident happened shortly after 3 pm when a group of men viciously attacked an elderly man on crutches in the car park between the Quay and South Main Street.
Several witnesses and passers-by immediately went to the aid of the man – calling the emergency services, and getting blankets, foil wraps, and a heat pack for him.
Gardaí and an ambulance attended the scene.
Ms Doyle has condemned the attack which she described as an “utterly cowardly disgrace.”
“This assault doesn’t represent my town – the ordinary people who helped do. Anybody who knows anything about this, should contact the Gardaí immediately,” she said.
