Gorey storm to success by half dozen


Last Saturday saw Gorey brave Storm Deirdre and venture up the M11 to the National Sports Campus to play Dublin North.
Gorey took push back and quickly applied pressure on the Dublin North defence. Robyn Swords passed the ball into Ailbhe Booth who put Gorey ahead by striking the ball hard from the top of the circle. (0-1).
Dublin North restarted the game quickly but were quickly dispossessed by Gorey’s midfield, Gorey won a short corner which Nicola Ryan converted with a clean shot into the left corner. (0-2).
Gorey continued to apply pressure on the Dublin North goalie when a rebound from a short corner landed at Ailbhe Booth’s stick where she did a 360-spin around the keeper and swept the ball into the goal. (0-3) at half-time.
Dublin North restarted the game but once more were quickly dispossessed by a quite confident Gorey defence. Muireann Deegan dribbled the ball into the circle finding Olive McGarry who swept the ball into the goal. (0-4).
Grainne Waters received the ball from Sarah Merrigan taking it into the circle Grainne passed to Zoe Kenny who swept the ball just inside the left post. (0-5).
After a short corner shot was body checked on the line Gorey were awarded a penalty flick, Sarah Merrigan calmly stepped forward to take it only to have the Dublin North goalie make a fantastic save denying her a goal.
In the last 10 minutes Gorey continually applied pressure on the Dublin North goalie Nicola Ryan received a pass out wide in the circle which she struck first time sending the ball flying past of the goalie. (0-6).
A great team display meant Dublin North only gained entry into the Gorey circle twice over the 70 minutes.
