The six greyhounds to contest the 2018 Connolly’s RED MILLS Future Champion Unraced Stake at Enniscorthy Greyhound Stadium have been chosen following Monday night’s semi-finals.
The opening semi-final went to the Peter Cronin trained Jazz Beat, owned by Aidan Comerford, Kildare, this son of Zero Ten out of Pat Dalton’s great staying bitch, Volcano, made every post a winning one and stopped the clock in 29.22. The Dec ’16 whelp looks to have a bright future, don’t be surprised to see this fellow move up to six bends later in his career and challenge for major events over longer trips. Droopys Bee took the runner-up spot and Ballinabola Gin was the other qualifier, six lengths and one length in arrears respectively.
The early pace of Monbeg Me Daddy catapulted the locally owned dog into the lead in the second semi-final, but the sheer pace of Killer Bee saw the Kildare owned dog, collect this heat in 29.32. He broke well enough from trap 3, was shuffled back the field on the opening turn, and the March ’19 son of Ballydoyle Honey powered up the home straight for a five and a half lengths win from Milking It, with Jaytee Sienna a short head back in third place.
The final will be run next Monday night, with an 8,500 euro prize to the winner.
