George Roche’s Express Sparkle and Paul Hennessy’s Lebudgiesmuggler both stopped the clock in identical times of 29.17 to jointly share the fastest time in the second round of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Future Champion Unraced Stake in Enniscorthy on Monday night.
The Peter Cronin trained, Crossfield Marty, took the opening heat with a trap to line success in 29.50.
Pennys Ardross joined the Paul Hennessy kennel during the week, and he showed no ill effects as he again produced a trap to line success to win in 29.40. John Turner purchased the dog and he will now race under his new name of Jaytee General.
The well bred Killer Bee followed up last week’s success by taking heat 5; he came late and wide to get the verdict in an impressive 29.29, this fellow encountered plenty of trouble but impressed, and he looks like one to follow.
The final heat went to John Tuohy’s, Trade Chandler, despite being last into the opening bend, a gap appeared on the inside, this 16 month old pup took full advantage of the situation, and he raced to a comfortable victory in 29.32.
The times for the competition are a little disappointing, no headline runs, and this may well be the reason for smaller crowds than in previous years, but we are still looking at some exciting pups, and they should improve significantly when they leave Enniscorthy.
The third round takes place next Sunday evening, the first race gets underway at 7.30pm.
