New Ross mourns retired educator Cathal


Many tributes are being paid to the memory of Cathal Mooney, a retired school Principal from Mountross, New Ross, who sadly passed away on Friday.
He retired as Principal of New Ross CBS Primary School in 2007 following a magnificent contribution to the school, it’s students and staff.


Cathal started working in the CBS Primary in January 1971 and spent 37 years of a 40-year teaching career there.
He succeeded Jackie Stacey as Principal in 1999, but the following year he was head hunted’ by the Department of Education to become a teacher trainer of science when the subject was being introduced into primary schools as a compulsory subject and he remained in that position until his retirement.
Beloved father of the late Eamonn, sadly missed by his loving wife May, sons Cathal Óg, Patrick and Joseph, grandchildren Clodagh, Dáire, Cara and Charlotte, brother, sisters, daughters-in-law Monica and Aoife, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
Reposing at Cooney’s Funeral Home, New Ross, today (Saturday) from 4 pm concluding at 7 pm.
Removal from the funeral home on Sunday to St. Mary and Michael’s Parish Church, New Ross, arriving for requiem Mass at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in St. Aidan’s Cemetery, Ferns, arriving at 2 pm approx.
Family flowers only please, donations if desired to The Hope Centre, Enniscorthy. House Private and funeral home private on Sunday morning please.
