John Bowman coming to Gorey Summer School

Renowned historian and broadcaster, John Bowman, will present the opening lecture in the 24th Byrne Perry Summer School in Gorey Library on Friday, June 29th.
The title of the lecture is ‘Irish Women since 1916; from marginalisation to liberation’.
Drawing on his two latest books, John Bowman traces the evidence of how women’s lives were transformed in 20th century Ireland.
As author of Window and Mirror, RTE Television, 1961-2011 and more recently Ireland: The Autobiography:one hundred years of Irish life told by its people, John will examine how an authoritarian, censorious male elite found themselves increasingly marginalised as women’s lib set the agenda.
A book signing will follow the lecture.
Admission is free and all are welcome, however, booking is essential. Email or telephone 053 9421481 to reserve a free ticket.
We will bring you more details of the Byrne Perry Summer School programme as soon as we receive them.
