The first Africa Day is taking place in Enniscorthy today and it is a huge success with a ‘full house’ for the music, education and cultural event taking place in The Presentation Centre.
Messages of welcome and introduction were delivered by Cllr Keith Doyle, Chairman, Enniscorthy Municipal District Council, and Michael Wall, Chairman, Wexford Local Development, who are backing the event which is supported by Irish Aid. Other speakers were John O’Connor and Hezekiah Shoyeju.
Dr Nalini Ambiavagar from Gorey Malawi Health Partnership, Fr Sean Devereux and Fr Billy Swan, Enniscorthy.
There were enjoyable poetry readings from Adeyosola Adedeji and Adejisayo Adedeji, while Funmi Akinyemi, Ola Adedeji, Iyewunmi Adungba and Ayo Oladiran performed Kenyan song and dance.
Other events included a hair braiding demonstration, an Ethiopian coffee ceremony by Rachel Cole, a Nigerian culture dance and music from children and DJ Redwood.
