Current point-to-point champion rider, Barry O’Neill, who will be thrilling his neighbours when goes into action at his local track at Monksgrange, Rathnure, next Sunday, had an occasion to remember at the opening day of the Punchestown festival today.
O’Neill was aboard the Gigginstown House Stud owned, Gordon Elliott trained, Commander of Fleet, impressive winner of the Goffs Land Rover Bumper of €100,000. It was the Ballindaggin riders’ second success in the year in three years having tasted success on Robert Tyner’s Coeur De Lion in 2016.
His luck didn’t hold out when Adulterated slipped up and came down three furlongs out in the final bumper, but he will have many supporters next Sunday.
Entries closed today for the Monksgrange fixture and 115 entries were received. The first race will start at 2 pm.
